What is the U3A?
-
The University of the Third Age in Great Britain was created more than 25 years ago.
-
There are over 123,000 members and more than 500 U3As in England, Scotland and Wales.
-
The idea started in France where the classes are more formal and linked with universities and professional teachers.
-
There are now branches of the University of the Third Age all over the world and the internet provides an increasingly important link
between groups at all levels.
-
Each U3A and every group is autonomous and The Third Age Trust is the title of the supportive body of all the U3As in Britain.
-
Holidays, summer schools, internet courses and various free educational publications are available to all members.
-
"Those who teach shall also learn, those who learn shall also teach" This is one of the basic principles of the UK U3A movement as stated by Peter Laslett - Founder
Member
